A lot of these would be weird, obscure, unusual guitar tones. But best? They left out all of the best, seemingly deliberately, because it would be too “obvious”. Hipsterism. Or they just have really bad taste and don’t understand electric guitar. If you’re going to talk about “the best”, it is what it is. B.B. King. Eric Clapton. Carlos Santana. David Gilmour. And so on. Maybe Yngwie Malmsteen. Eric Johnson. The list of better tones than these is very long.

Isn't the beat or the measures or some of the lyrics (maybe the bridge) also based on 13 measures in some places within the song. Somewhere there is a 13 based beats measures or bridge. IDK someone once told me that, but I've never really looked into it. I did count it out once or twice and couldn't deny it, I think it was the bridges. You're the pros... how about it?

Honestly, I can't hear that "laidback" effect on that song. Yes the kick on 2 and 4 is brilliant but there's nothing strange about the rest of the groove...

Did Jack say that Esther Phillips was discovered by Kenny Rodgers? Cuz that is totally not true! She was 'discovered' by the great Johnny Otis at the age of 14 in 1949, singing in a talent competition. She had numerous hits under the name Little Esther before adopted the stage-surname Phillips. She was an incredible talent who never found the widespread fame she deserved.

You know youve entered a discussion room where everyone is scratching each ohers balls ... these cretins obviousky havent tuned into world musc or heard gifted instrumentalists .. an avergae bass/sitar/veena player from India would school these kids in what it is to synch play.. both harmonics and distortions .. just so Sad. :-(

Love Narada ! He called me out one night. He was critiquing demos. I knew I made a mistake in writing the chorus ,but wasn’t going to mention it to Michael. He heard it. His response “ As everybody here is thinking the same thing. It sounds very much like a Beatles song. You know you mad a big mistake don’t you ? “ I said “ I should have known you would pick up on it “ He says “ What were you not thinking ? “ Me “ I know but I recorded it as a demo in Nashville , and listening to the song on the plane on my way back to SFO I could not believe I was a staff writer for a major label, and I blew “ Michael called me out in front of about thirty people . - No one else picked up on it - Here’s what he said “ How could you not change the melody on the chorus that repeats three times. You knew you blew it “ I loved Michael since Mahavishnu , and when I heard “ How will I know “ it blew me out of the water. Then I heard Michael lived in Marin. That embarrassing night was down in the Marina area near Safeway in one of the buildings with all these rooms . Greens restaurant was in one of the buildings . I can’t remember what it’s called, Fort ? .Michael would remember . Must have been twenty some years ago now …
